Drilling and Sanding OperationGreens drilled and sanded - The greens were not available on February 14th to allow this maintenance operation to proceed - the greens will be sandy for a few weeks until the grass begins to grow - you may want to use older bowls or borrow ones from the club during this period since the sand will mar your bowls - watch the video
FEB 11, 2012 Birthday Party - held on Saturday instead of the normal Tuesday because the greens are being drilled and sanded on that day. We had a great turnout and everyone enjoyed the games (the cool, windy weather, not so much...). The food was excellent! Micky's soup was really tasty and hit the spot coming in from the cold. Pat Pepin & Gail Hodgson brought the salads, Laurna Burdick brought the rolls, Evelyn Tiel brought the Red Velvet Cake & Carol Walker baked the Cherry Cheescake.The Valentine's Day decorations were a nice touch. Thanks to the ladies who served (Carol, Laurna, Gail and Kay).

SEP 5, 2011 Labor Day Party - We had a great turnout and everyone enjoyed Doris Rahm's BBQ sandwiches (most had more than one). Doris and Joe also brought a cake for an early celebration of their upcoming 66th wedding anniversary. We did three "Spiders" (women's, men's and mixed). Two triples and two doubles matches followed - the winning players received $4 each and the runners-up got $2.
AUG 30, 2011 Board Meeting
  • Provident Bank presented a check for $370.72 to the club for those who have linked their accounts to the club
  • Elmer Hodgins was elected to fill the remainder of Tom Bentley's term as Greens Director - Elmer has been acting Greens Director for several months
  • Elmer noted that he has established a good working relationship with the SCCA representatives - the upper green irrigation is shared with the golf course and he hopes to change the plumbing to have it share with the lower green - thatch buildup is a problem - he has arranged for us to borrow a de-thatching machine from the Newport club (transportation of the machine is yet to be arranged)
  • President Hill nominated and the Board approved three people to serve on a nominating committee for the 2012 elections
  • the Mystery Tournament will be SEP 20-23 - the format has yet to be determined
  • Bob McGee printed more brochures for distribution - he reminded of the Visitation on SEP 15 at Riverside and will post a sign-up sheet soon
  • Labor Day party is SEP 5th - we'll eat at 5:30 and then bowl - Doris Rahm will be the chef
  • the General Membership meeting is Tuesday SEP 6th @ 10:00 AM in the club room
  • Pam Munson will make inquiries about the availability of Civic Hall for the Christmas Party
  • Bob McGee will make the flyer for the Sun City Mix or Match Triples tournament - Pam Munson and Jim Semanek will be co-directors - it will be three 12-end games - entry fee is $20/person - no lunch will be served

JUL 14, 2011 Visitation @ Hemet. We had a great Visitation. Hemet supplied an excellent pot-luck dinner, the green was in great shape, the weather was delightful and the people were all pleasant (the norm for lawn bowlers, of course). Did I say people? I should have said the horde. Hemet was a bit surprised to host sixty from its club, Pomona, Redlands Riverside and Sun City. The twelve of us were: Charlie Fox, Bill Goring, Gene Hendershott, Bob Hill, Elmer & Gail Hodgson, Bob McGee, Helen Merrit, Joe & Doris Rahm, Jim Semanek and Carol Walker.

  • Club Doubles tournament will be July 19-22 - sign up now
  • Visitation @ Hemet on Thursday July 14th with Riverside, Redlands and Pomona - carpools depart Sun City at 4:30 - Hemet provides a potluck dinner and then we bowl
  • July birthdays will be celebrated Tuesday the 12th
  • The July Dine-out is at Coco's on Thursday the 28th
  • Elmer Hodgson has arranged for the greens to be mowed every other day - the "groomer" isn't working, but efforts continue to obtain a replacement
  • President Bob Hill proposed a Labor Day picnic on September 5th like the one on July 4th - Doris Rahm offered to make BBQ Beef
  • The next Board meeting will be August 30th (there will be no August 2nd meeting)
  • The Tuesday September 6th Board meeting is cancelled
  • The General Membership meeting is Tuesday September 6th
  • August birthdays will be celebrated Tuesday the 9th
  • The August Dine-out is on Thursday the 25th (location not yet chosen)
JUL 4, 2011 Holiday BBQ - Bob Pickering did his magic and provided us with hot dogs and hamburgers - Micky Alexander and crew organized a great dinner and none of the thirty-two who came should have gone away hungry - we bowled three spiders (men's, women's & mixed) before playing a triples game (10 teams) - winning teams won $3/person for their effort while the runner-ups got $2

  • Bob McGee prepared a flyer for the upcoming Open House - he will produce 50 copies
  • April 28th Dine-Out will be at Carnita's Express
  • Tom Bentley will undergo a medical procedure and be unavailable for a period of 2-3 months - Bob McGee will fill in for e-mail notifications
  • The club is limited to three teams in the 5-player Jack Morgan tournament to be held on Sunday May 22nd - the first three teams that sign up will play
APR 1, 2011 Chili Cook-Off - We did a "Spider", bowled and then sampled & ate chili. Jim Semanek's bowl was lucky enough to get the $5 Spider prize. We had two triples games - each member of the winning teams got $4, the runner-up's got $2, Then on to the chili tasting. Five entrants brought their best. We sampled them all and voted for our favorites. Evelyn's recipe won the nod (and $5).

DEC 1, 2009 Citrus League Meeting - the organizing meeting for the 2010 Citrus League was held at 12:00 PM at Riverside LBC - rules for the 2010 season were finalized - a January 12th meeting will identify teams and finalize the schedule - click on the "Citrus League" menu item for more information
NOV 21, 2009 Pizza Party - About 16 of us bowled at 10:00 and then had pizza for lunch - it was $3 well spent

NOV 9, 2009 Membership Meeting in Webb Hall at 10:00 AM - we elected 2010 officers, decided to change the Novice Tournament to a single day event on Sunday November 15th, and learned the Christmas party details.
NOV 8, 2009 Vet/Novice Pairs Tournament - pictures - Laguna Beach, MacKenzie Park, Pasadena and Sun City clubs hosted this one-day Southwest Division event - nine teams, including many of our club members competed at Sun City. The final results were:

OCT 29, 2009 Visitation at Hemet - we had a good turnout for the event - the day started cool, but conditions were perfect for bowling - thanks to the Hemet group for hosting this event
